Grand Rapids is easy to get to — and once you're here, it's easy to get around!
Drive
Driving to Grand Rapids is virtually hassle-free — because the city is located at the intersection of two major expressways. Drive time from Detroit is 2-1/2 hours and it's 3 hours from Chicago. Click here for driving directions to Patterson Ice Center.
Fly
Gerald R. Ford International Airport, the state's second busiest, has direct air service to many cities throughout the country — including Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Memphis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New York - LaGuardia & Newark, Orlando, Tampa and Washington D.C.
Rail
For those coming from Chicago, another option is Amtrak. In a few hours, you can travel from downtown Chicago to downtown Grand Rapids — and let someone else do the driving!
Float
The newest way to get to Grand Rapids is by boat. Grand Rapids is located 30 miles from the dock in Muskegon, where a high-speed ferry boat arrives three times per day from Milwaukee. It makes the trip in just 2-1/2 hours — and you can bring your car on board or rent one at the dock upon arrival. Click here for more information about the Lake Express ferry.
